Second Paragon Night with Second Grade

By | School News | No Comments

On October 9th, 2014, we had our second Paragon Night for the 2014-15 school year. During the evening, Mr. Perez and Mrs. Tejada held a presentation for the Title One program before kicking off the event with a few teachers parading around a huge paper dragon for the audience! The second graders, who were the stars of the show for Paragon Night this month, used what they learned in this unit of Paragon to prepare both a play and a song to perform. They studied the culture of ancient China, and so their play was set in ancient China, called “The Empty Pot,” and they sang a song in Chinese!

The second graders did a phenomenal job and were met with raucous applause at the end of the event. We hope that Paragon Night next month will be just as exciting!

During “The Empty Pot,” a year after the emperor passed out the special seeds, all the potential successors presented the flowers they supposedly had grown from the seeds they were given.

During “The Empty Pot,” the only person who had been honest about their failure to coax anything to grow from the seeds they were given, was crowned the next emperor, for being honest and courageous: the seeds had been boiled, and could not have grown after all.

PACS accepts the Ice Bucket Challenge!

By | School News | No Comments

On September 5th, our school was challenged by Mosaica Preparatory Academy of Chandler (MPAC) to participate in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge! As such, PACS decided that all staff and teachers would participate in the challenge, while students and families enjoyed the show.

Friday, September 19th, all of our students were gathered in the playground area and lawn to watch their teachers and PACS staff members have ice water poured over their heads. In order to raise money to give to the ALS Association, our students were able to participate in raffles to see which students would have the honor of pouring ice water over their favorite teachers!

It turned out a be a very fun event for everyone involved, and the students had a blast!

We posted a video of a portion of the challenge to our school Facebook page, which can be viewed by clicking here!

First 2014-15 Paragon Night: Success!

By | School News | No Comments

Our first Paragon Night for the 2014-15 school year went off without a hitch on September 4th! At our first Paragon Night, students from 3rd, 6th, and 8th grade performed a sample of what each respective grade learned in Paragon through the month of August. Parents and students were welcome to attend, as with every Paragon Night (so feel free to come to the next one!), and we had great turnout for the evening.

Some of the highlights involved a short play set in ancient Egypt, a skit about the founding of our country, and a skit about humans. Lots of thanks go out to the teachers from 3rd, 6th, and 8th grade and our Specials teachers who helped set everything up and make sure the night ran smoothly!

Here are some of our memorable moments from the evening:

As we get closer to the end of the year we had another amazing week PACS!  We’ve finished up all the testing and looking forward to a great finish for the year.

Our final Paragon Night of the year was on Thursday, May 29th.  It was a great show and I know everyone had a good time.  We named Ms. Tejada Teacher of the Year and Erika Amaya “Rookie” Teacher of the Year.   Both are very deserving of their awards and we are proud of them. In addition, we had a surprise Retirement Party for Ms. Coleman. She was left speechless with all the people that came to attend.

Be sure to get your re-enrollment packet returned if you haven’t already done so.  All families that have returned their re-enrollment packets by June 3rd and have a student in school on Sept. 10th will be eligible for a $25 gift card drawing to be held on Sept. 15th!  Make sure your re-enrollment is returned!

Tell a friend about Phoenix Advantage Charter School?  Refer them, and if they stay enrolled from August 11th through the end of the first semester, you receive a $100 gift card.

Important Dates:

June 5th: Kindergarten Graduation at 5PM and 8th Grade Promotion at 6:30PM

June 6th – Early Release at 12:00 PM

Thank you to all the parents, students, teachers, and staff for your continued support throughout the rest of the school year. If you are interested in Summer OASIS care, please stop by or ask for a copy of the Summer Program brochure.

Hope your week end is awesome!

We received a $5,000 grant for our playground!

Phoenix Advantage Charter School

$5,000 will provide funding for the Playground Rehabilitation Project

Phoenix, AZ – The Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation has awarded a $5,000 Lowe’s Toolbox for Education® grant to Phoenix Advantage Charter School in Phoenix for renovation of their school playground Phoenix Advantage Charter School is one of more than 600 schools across the United States to be awarded a Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grant this spring for improvement projects during the 2013-2014 school year.

The vision is for a “park-like” playground for the students, an environment where safety is paramount. The current playground area is sufficient in scale for the number of students enrolled; however, it is primarily a dirt playground.  Transforming the playground to a grassy area will be much cooler when the temperatures rise in the area as well as a much cleaner area for play.

Another great week here at PACS! We had another great informational meeting with Not MY Kid – check out for some useful information. In addition, Ms. Reese and the Drama Club had two amazing performances in our Black Box Theater – Room 107 on Thursday and Friday. High School Musical, Jr. was a great success and Ms. Reese and the cast did an amazing job. Thank you to everyone that came out and supported us!

Kindergarten and 1st grade will begin Iowa Test of Basic Skills tests next week, as well as a continuation of 2nd – 8th grade Scantron testing. Please make sure that your student is coming to school each day for testing well-rested, and on time. This is a great way for teachers and staff to determine the needs of each student for the rest of this year and to start planning for next year’s classes.

As this school year gets closer to its end, please be sure to get your student to school every day. We will continue working hard and moving forward each and every day in order to meet our goal of 1.25 years’ growth. Thank you to all the students, staff, teachers and parents for your continued support throughout the rest of the school year.

Head of School Update – 5/9/14

We had a wonderful week at PACS. Teachers were showered with gifts and food for Teacher Appreciation Week. Thank you to all the parents, students and staff that helped to make it such an amazing week!  Lots of smiles were going around on Friday afternoon.

This was our first week of Scantron testing, and the scores are showing a great amount of growth. I have to say that our staff and students have worked so hard trying to ensure they reach their goals!  We will begin the PARCC Field Test next week in order to prepare for the coming years of testing.

Be sure to come to our informational meeting presented by Not MY Kid on Wednesday, May 14th at 5:30 PM – presented in Spanish.  This is always a great presentation and provides new information you can use to help protect your kids.

We will also have our annual Spring Play, High School Musical, Jr., on Thursday and Friday, directed by Ms. Reese.  Ms. Reese and the Drama Club always put on a great show.  It is so nice to see just how talented our kids are.  Each year it gets better and better.

Have a great Weekend,

What a great week!  Everyone, staff and students alike worked hard for Paragon Night! It was a great time had by all and the Paragon Passport was a huge success.  Ms. Reese and her Drama Club gave everyone in attendance a brief look at the musical coming up in May.  Everyone needs to plan to be here.  We will start our final Scantron assessments of the year next week.  I know students and teachers have been putting in the effort to do their best. Even at this time of year, the passion our teachers and students have is amazing!

We had a successful soccer season which just ended. With soccer ending we have finished our athletics for the year. This was our first year back in the CAA after 7 years. Three of our athletic teams ended up in playoffs and really did an outstanding job. PACS students are the best!  We are looking forward to our 8th grade Washington DC/New York City trip. Fourteen of our eighth graders have been busy fundraising to be able to enjoy this opportunity, where they will get to explore our nation’s capital and all the historical sights of the DC area as well as spend a couple of days in The Big Apple.

It has been an amazing year so far.  I hope everyone knows how great it is to work with such professionals and have the opportunity to be around the best students and parents each and every day.  Don’t forget next week is Teacher Appreciation week.  Be sure to let your child’s teacher know how much you appreciate them.  They are the best!

Hope you had a wonderful weekend,
